America is alone. This isn't even a geographic map with the American borders defined; it's just a cut-out of the mainland United States. You wouldn't know that Mexico or Canada so much as existed.

it means "9-11 didn't change America at all." I think that's why he avoided the typical construction "How Has America Changed Since 9-11?" America has changed considerably, but, as Alone suggests, 9-11 hasn't had much impact in the long run.
