Execution on this medium was wonderful - headphones were needed for full appreciation. I imagine you had some fun writing the script for this. What was the inspiration? I hope this was successful as I'd be happy to continue supporting your ideas.

I wish I could purchase this, but I'm really uncomfortable with using paypal. I'd be willing to send cash to a PO box or something along with my email if I can get in contact with you about it via email first, but the idea of paying money for stuff via the internet creeps me out, especially if it's through paypal.

Brilliant stuff!
I am currently revisiting Greek mythology and trying to think about the stories as warnings, as case studies. Thanks for the insight.
I love the fact that a child was the narrator (toying around with authority, eh?) and that song is just gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing the video. Great job. I also hope that the idea of a book is still under consideration.

Do your parents know you're writing on the internet?
Also, sweet kazoo performance.
Alright, that's about enough sarcasm for a while. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I didn't completely understand the last few minutes (I'm supposed to be Narcissus, I know, but it didn't feel like a huge revelation...more like a "oh...k."). Really entertaining story though.

Hey, do Icarus next, only tell us how it was Daedelus's fault because he set inadequate limits for his son, and trapped in a small tower Icarus fantasised that he was as powerful as the sun. Gotta be able to make a nice metaphor out of the labyrinth too... we are trapped by our own twisted designs etc...

My main takeaway from the piece is that Alone Junior is obviously a little boy.

It was $2, and he'll put it up for free eventually. We're only really paying for our own impatience.
Now people who criticize the entertainment industry have to die of starvation?
Unless you were being ironic... In which case, I'm an idiot, didn't get it, so disregard this.

I'm not able to pay AND GET IT .. even if I have money. I feel like I think to understand my personality when I read any article from TLP. There is no reason to wait .. there is an article about it too, there is something about percentage, investments and improvement. You can call me a typical consumer.

Loved it. Worth all 200 pennies. I also loved being able to do my part to enrich someone who I feel worthy of my hard earned government paper. Please keep it up.
To the whiners who don't like Alone making a buck: Take a cue from Alone Jr. and please grow up. Besides, the vast majority of people don't value something that they are freely given.

Yes, the successful psychiatrist will starve if he doesnt make enough money from a website hes been running for free for over half a decade.
Id like to see someone set this up as a torrent and link it in the comments. Is Alone pro-piracy when it concerns his own intellectual property?
August 1, 2012 5:38 AM | Posted, in reply to , by : | Reply
Note the donation button to the right. You've had the power to enrich someone worthy of your hard earned government paper all along! Just click the button 3 times and say "There's no place like $$$". Note that the author had to tell you to enrich him before it crossed your mind. Guess he just wasn't worthy enough before.
Does Alone value the movies he downloads freely? Does he mock the people in the industry who are also trying to make a buck? Since he advocates piracy should he also take a cue from his child and grow up? Did you value Alone's writings before this audio file, or did you dismiss them because they were free?

August 1, 2012 3:13 PM | Posted by : | Reply
I think everyone should send in an extra $2.00 for the child who reads so well. It's not that Alone doesn't deserve it--- although I like to think of him as financially solvent--- although i don't know what 'solvent' means in this context, really. But I know it's a good thing. Anyways- I'm sending in more money on the third when I am temporarily financially solvent myself, maybe the child will get it--- although it isn't a lot :-( . Maybe I'll send more. Like 5 or 10.

as for whoever downvoted my comment, and anyone else who disagrees...take a quick look at his twitter feed. in reply to another tweet saying that the narrator is his kid, he says "??? Do I sound old enough to have kids?"
just because he has a lot to say about parenting does not mean we should conclude that he is a parent himself.

Nice story. I listened three times and forced my wife to hear it too. The child sounded great and added to the story. Very high quality likeable voice and 95 out of 100 performance. If it is a single take, no editing kinda thing, then it was a 100 out of 100. I would pay 2 bucks again and for the rest of the time you do this. Though going with the spirit of the times...99 cents is typical pay to play podcast pricing. But experiment and let the market and you suss it out. Thanks and keep writing, podcasting etc. I check back to your site like an online gambler. Guess there are worse addictions.

My preference is to support through commerce and not charity. It allows for more self respect for the recipient. It's one of the reasons I prefer not to give to panhandlers holding cardboard signs at street corners. Sure, it makes me feel swell, but that's all it's done at most, but reinforcing parasitical behavior at worst.
But because of what you wrote, I don't expect you can understand this at all.

I cannot believe there is such discussion over the goddamn 2 dollars. He feeds you in his on way, with words and ideas and a community of sorts. Somebodies should be feeding him back. Quibbling at all over 2 dollars is bad form. It reflects only on those who do it, says nothing about Alone one way or another. Sniping at all about it is biting the hand that's fed for a long time. Maybe it was more light-hearted ribbing than I realize and if so I apologize. I think the idea he's creating employment (I hope the child who read got paid) with this is fantastic.

Judging by how his lingo is so "down" and "hip" with the groovy young dudes and dudettes, no, he doesn't sound like it, but if what little he reveals about himself is true and he's not the Doogie Howser of psychiatry, then he's certainly old enough to have kids.
Anyway, I think it's his niece, to whom he recounted the plot of Inception as a bedtime story.

I don't know if I believe shrinks when they say they do or don't have kids or a spouse. I mean, when i taught preschool I invented kids and a spouse so that people would listen to me when I talked to them about their children, they'd take me seriously. But if I were a shrink, I'd lose the spouse and kids fast, since the nature of it seems so intense, screw at times, personal anyway that I would want to keep them as safe as possible- by pretending they didn't exist, if necessary. On the other hand, to a lot of people nothing says 'stable and normal' like a spouse and kids, so I don't know. Is that weird?
August 2, 2012 11:10 AM | Posted by : | Reply
Oh, God! Not 'screw at times,' that's a whole 'nother problem. 'Screwy.' Complicated, wacky, volatile, activating, ...

Alone responded to my tweet and said "Do I sound old enough to have kids?" which felt a tad manipulative, since the timeframe he has vaguely outlaid here for his med school career and being a Gen Xer make him obviously old enough for kids. Yeah, being 35-45 age range is usually old enough to have bred. Why you throwing us off your trail?
What's weirder is if he didn't have kids and he plucked this VO child actor from central casting; either that or this child is his niece or nephew? A friend's kid? How long did the coaching take to get the emphasis right? Did Alone himself recite the piece with the appropriate emphasis added and then had the voice actor rehearse and record it?

More recent July news on the risperdal legal activity.
"Report: J&J will pay 2.2B in Risperdal settlement" July 19, 2012 BoombergBusinessweek.
Quote fromt he article:
"johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay as much as 2.2 billion to resolve an investigation into its marketing of the antipsychotic drug Risperdal, according to a published report.
The wall street Journal, which reported the settlement THursday, said the settlement will include a $400 million criminal fee and that the final amount will depend on how many states accept the settlelment." end quote. The justice department evidently was coming down thorough and hard on the company in order to exact such an amount.

Sucks that these comments are some of the worst in history. Why can't we discuss the issue.
"He loves himself because he ran out of people to love"
How does one own his own feelings and feel like he is being himself fully? Far too often I am not sure who is in control - and it's not like I am actively trying to be someone else, but I can pick up parts from "what I think cool XYZ would act like" or something - but what is ME? How to feel more, yo?
August 3, 2012 5:46 PM | Posted by : | Reply
Two things help me:
1. Schedule special time for this and structure an activity specifically chosen for this purpose.
2. Give myself permission, consciously, to feel.
Alternatively, some people might do better with designating a time without a structured activity.

How old are you? Issues of authenticity and identity are very important to young people-adolescents, young adults. That would make your issues to be expected. But i]f you are older, did anything happen when you might have been able to work on these issues to make it so that your attention and energy were directed elsewhere?

Very helpful website. Important to remember that it may bring up painful memories or feelings and to make a point of being kind and gentle to yourself if you look at it and it does so.
27 is very young and being authentic is a lifetime task even if there is a particular concern with it in the younger years. Better to look at it now like an aware human being than to wait until you're older and feel as if you missed out on experiences you would have liked to have had. There is an opportunity in that you recognize you feel this way now.

I noticed that her cadence was extremely close to what I hear in my head when I read this blog. So the last scenario you mentioned is plausible. Or if she is his niece, and he speaks anything like he writes, maybe she's picked up on his idiosyncrasies and instinctively knew how to perform the piece the same way he would.
But why are we putting so much effort into speculating about all this? We don't really want to unmask the Batman. We want the unmasking to always be in the future. So I'm gonna shut up and get back to reading Fear and Trembling now.

Interesting night, had two encounters that almost resulted in blows, one of which did, the other was with a semi-good friend. Then my girlfriend gave me a variation of that "God, you are toxic" speech, which I think might help some...as I am trying to solve it too:
basically, when ego is so big that your identity is so attached to you - and then you make judgements, a lot of them, because you are right (you can't be wrong - I suppose because if you are wrong about X, then may be Y, and then what are you right about?!) So, in a nutshell, you are a shitty person and people don't want someone to judge them.
meaning not being nice, not being tolerant.. not being patient.
I don't fucking know, why this attachement? Why so many questions about basic human interrelations. Where was I when this was taught in school?
August 5, 2012 6:36 AM | Posted, in reply to , by : | Reply
it was never taught in school, not the kind of thing you learn there. your parents would teach you that sort of thing, or not. and the issue probably comes out of disordered relations with them.
if it's really a problem and you really want to solve it, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy is good for that.

Echo reminds me of women who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. There are so many of them making a hell out of the lives of their children. Would love if Alone wrote about them. Interesting view of Narcissus, I guess that's why I always loved Greek "mythos" because they felt like true warnings, although I never ever even thought of thinking how deep the implications each story 'could' have, which led me to attribute most of the bizarre aspects of each mythos as simply an interesting desire for the Greeks to be creative with realities presented to us by life (it was just their style period).
However, when you put Narcissus's and Echo's story into that perspective, with the implications of how they were raised affecting them and the fact that ultimately what matters is that they could have changed their destinies but didn't, I can't help but wonder if that's the whole point of the story...a lot of us follow a different yet similar path to that of Narcissus (or should I say Narcissus wasn't as unique a character as we like to think), but maybe LIKE Narcissus himself we have the luxury of having Nemesis look at [us] even through stories to remind us that there lies danger in looking at ourselves/fantasying (that powerful last revealing part the little girl let us experience).
In any case, this was an interesting piece shrink. 2 bucks, not too expensive. Kudos to the little kid, she did well I hope she can use this as a project for school to teach the other children about what happens to those who obsess about how evil, beautiful, good, intelligent, dumb, quiet, talkative, funny, observative, charismatic, angry, strong, weak they are.

Hymn to Nemesis
By Mesomedes of Crete
Translated by A.Z. Foreman
Nemesis, winged tilter of scales and lives,
Justice-spawned Goddess with steel-blue eyes!
Thou bridlest vain men who roil in vain
Against Thy harsh adamantine rein.
Great hater of hubris and megalomania,
Obliterator of black resentment,
By Thy trackless, churning, wracking wheel
Man's glinting fortunes turn on earth.
Thou comest in oblivion's cloak to bend
The grandeur-deluded rebel neck,
With forearm measuring out lifetimes
With brow frowning into the heart of man
And the yoke raised sovereign in Thy hand.
Hail in the highest, O justice-queen
Nemesis, winged tilter of scales and lives,
Immortal Resenter! I sing Thy song,
Almighty Payback on proud-spread wings,
Lieutenant of fairness, Requiter of wrongs.
Despise the lordly with all Thine art
And lay them low in the Nether-dark.

On twitter, Alone posted about the younger generations needing to unlearn everything about self-esteem.
Recently, teen idol Justin Bieber made a statement saying that Prince William should use chemical treatment on his receding hairline, and that he doesn't understand why he hasn't already.
So my question is, does Alone's idea that the perception of others is very important support Bieber's statement?
Why, or why not?

Be weary of anyone who claims to have a prescription for "the" problem or your problem.
TLP has his reasons for rejecting certain aspects of American and western culture. These reasons are his and his alone. He may claim that the younger generations "need" to do this or "ought" to do that, just as a Christian will say we "need" to be right with God.
The fact is that one cannot derive an ought from an is. Nobody "needs" to do anything. People who prescribe these oughts for other people are merely projecting themselves on the rest of society.
TLP talks a lot about how narcissism is bad and such. But make no mistake -- there is nothing wrong with being a narcissist. It is only TLP's opinion that such things are undesirable.

Very interesting story! The creepiest part is when that man gently whispers "At least you'll still look like you". Gave me shivers!

Would buy if (just had a typo which said "id" lol) I had an international credit card. Will wait for the free download.
